| I love the physical attributes of working with clay. After a long day of lifting heavy slabs and throwing pots I feel more fulfilled and complete. I feel that clay takes me back to the core of who I am as a human being. I work from sketches that take on their own life and form while I am in the process of making the piece. I spend a lot of time researching methods of working in clay to keep my work fresh. I use numerous techniques when I am working on my tiles, but I like to pull pieces together by mounting them all the same way. When I work on my long tile panels I will spend months making tiles and then I will mount large amounts of tiles at one time so that I can submerse myself in the tile making process. Our environments have a huge impact on everything we do. In my current body of work entitled "Home", I am trying to portray the people, things and ideas that influence my life daily. I am constantly being inspired by old, abandoned houses, people and thier private spaces, vintage beads, and weathered paint. |
